Oak Herringbone Flooring with Curved Border in Seahouses

Project Overview
This project in Seahouses, Northumberland, involved the supply and installation of new oak herringbone flooring through the living areas and adjoining hallway.
A distinctive feature of the installation is the two-block border, which was designed to follow the long, sweeping curve of an existing wall rather than finishing against it with a conventional straight edge.
The oak flooring was sanded and finished on site using an ultra-matt lacquer, providing a consistent appearance across the herringbone pattern and bespoke border details.

Bespoke Curved Two-Block Border
The most distinctive feature of this installation is the bespoke two-block oak border following the long, sweeping curve of the existing timber-panelled wall.
Rather than interrupting the design with a straight edge, the border follows the natural curve of the wall, framing the herringbone pattern and maintaining a consistent appearance throughout the room.
The finished detail creates a seamless visual transition between the flooring and the property’s existing architectural features.

Sanding & Site Finishing
Following installation, the oak herringbone flooring and bespoke two-block border were sanded and finished on site using an ultra-matt lacquer.
The low-sheen finish provides a natural, understated appearance, allowing the grain and character of the oak to remain prominent.
The curved border and surrounding herringbone flooring were finished together, creating a consistent appearance throughout the installation.
Completed Installation
The completed oak herringbone flooring brings together the living areas and adjoining hallway, with the two-block border providing a defined edge to the installation.
The sweeping curved border follows the existing timber-panelled wall, creating a distinctive feature that complements the character of the property.
The ultra-matt lacquer provides a subtle, low-sheen finish, allowing the natural colour and grain of the oak to remain prominent.
