Wood Floor Restoration at Hexham Abbey

Project Overview
This project involved the restoration of existing timber flooring within Hexham Abbey, bringing the floor back into use while retaining the character of the historic building.
The work focused on carefully restoring the existing boards rather than replacing them, improving the overall appearance of the floor while preserving the natural variation and age of the timber.
The Restoration
The existing timber floor was professionally sanded to remove the worn surface and prepare the boards for refinishing, while retaining the natural variation, marks and character that had developed within the older timber.
Once prepared, the floor was refinished throughout to give the boards a consistent appearance and provide a durable surface suitable for continued use within the building.
Finished Floor
The completed floor retains the natural variation and character of the original boards while presenting a much cleaner and more consistent finish across the room.
Rather than making the floor look new, the restoration preserves the age and individuality of the timber while giving it a finish suitable for continued use within Hexham Abbey.
